Energy

In addition to my academic work, I retain interests in the sustainable energy industry, where I started work in 1978 on the design of wave energy devices. In 1988 I set up one of the UK’s first wind energy development companies, Windcluster Ltd and remain the MD of that company to this day. We own and operate a small wind farm at Haverigg in Cumbria. In 1997 I was the joint founder of Wind Prospect Ltd, a wind energy development company that went on to employ 250 people and was active in markets across the globe.

Most recently, since moving to the Isle of Wight in 2011, I have become involved in energy issues on the Island and am Chair of Wight Community Energy (iowcommunityenergy.org and https://www.facebook.com/WightCommunityEnergy/). WCE is a community benefit company set up to promote community ownership of energy generation and to move the Island towards energy sustainability.
